03: Löwen Heimiswil
The Löwen country inn, first mentioned in a document in 1340, is considered the oldest «Löwen» in Switzerland. It offers cozy parlors, a banqueting hall and a sandstone wine cellar, was the location for a film scene from «Ueli der Knecht» and has hosted famous personalities such as astronaut Claude Nicollier and the entire Federal Council. However, cheese remains the oldest VIP in Emmental gastronomy.
Various Emmental inns used to hold «Käse-Ganten» and today offer cheese events such as the full moon fondue. Now follow the road towards Lueg until you reach Kaltacker. There, turn right towards Lueg/Affoltern. At the large wood collection point on the left-hand side of the road, you will learn lots of interesting facts about milk production in the past and today.
