For a long time, the utilization of milk was of existential importance for the Emmental economy. In the meantime, the number of farmers and farms in Switzerland is steadily decreasing. Nevertheless, the figures on dairy farming are impressive: depending on breed, age, development, weight, physique and individual disposition, a Swiss cow produces an average of 18 liters of milk a day. Around 3,300,000 tons of milk are produced in Switzerland every year, around 40 percent of which is processed into cheese. The most exported type of cheese is Emmentaler AOP. Around 1000 kilograms of milk are needed to make one 85-kilogram wheel of cheese. Follow the road towards Lueg, past the Landgasthof Lueg until you reach the turn-off to the Lueg monument.
