07: Old cheese dairy, Schaufelbühl
From the 1830s onwards, village cheese dairies sprang up like mushrooms. The «Käsehütte» acted as a link between the farms and was part of the village center. The cheese dairies were family businesses and the square in front of the cheese dairy was often a social meeting place. Almost every village produced its own cheese so that it could control its own quality. Up until modern times, cheese was also used as a form of payment in kind and an object of exchange and made up part of the parish priest's salary. Now follow the cycle route 99 towards Lützelflüh and enjoy the view of the Gotthelf village at the next point (signposted bench just before Lützelflüh).
