08: View Lützelflüh / Jeremias Gotthelf

Lützelflüh, the «Gotthelf village». Albert Bitzius, who wrote under the pseudonym Jeremias Gotthelf, was born in Murten on October 4, 1797. He studied theology and was elected pastor of Lützelflüh in 1832. He remained here until his death in 1854 and his grave can be found in the local cemetery on the south side of the church. His novels reflect rural life in the 19th century. Jeremias Gotthelf was able to incorporate Christian and humanistic demands into his work like no other writer of his time.
