In Homer's «Odyssey», 1000 years before Christ, the Cyclops Polyphemus makes cheese. 400 years before Christ, Aristotle wrote about milk processing. Later, the Swiss mountains, the Emmental and its cheese were also described in literature: Goethe used Swiss travel experiences and his knowledge of cheese in the musical comedy "Jeri und Bäteli". In the 18th century, the Bernese Romantics took up the production of Emmental cheese as a theme. And Jeremias Gotthelf wrote about the golden age of the cheese trade.
